Notes Popular elementary textbook of astronomy by Sharaf al-Dīn Maḥmūd ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Umar al-Jaghmīnī al-Khwārizmī (Sharaf al-Dīn Mahmoud ibn Muhammad ibn Umar al-Jaghmini al-Khwarizmi; fl. early 13th century). The text contains the following diagrams: (1) The cosmos (f. 67r); (2) The spheres of the Sun, the stars, Mercury and the Moon (ff. 68v-69r); (3) Unfilled space left blank for a diagram (f. 84r). Begins (f. 66v, lines 2-5): Praise be to God for His bounties, and blessings be upon His Prophet Muhammad and his family, says the poor Abdullah, to the mercy of God. Mahmoud bin Muhammad bin Omar Al-Jaghmini, may God grant him success. I wrote this book in the form of a scholar’s reminder After me, for every scholar, I sought summary with explanation and condensation of words into simplification Meanings according to the possibility and its name, summarized in the form...
