Notes Extract from a commentary (explanation) by Abū Isḥāq ibn ‘Abd Allāh (Abu Ishaq ibn Abdullah, fl. mid-sixteenth century) on the al-Risāla al-Shamsīyah fī al-ḥisāb (The solar treatise on arithmetic), a work on arithmetic by Niẓām al-Dīn al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad al-Nīsābūrī (Nizam al-Din al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Naysaburi; d. 1328 or 9). A copy of this commentary is found in Oxford, Bodleian MS Selden superius 36. The text has almost no critical points. Begins (f. 2v, lines 3-4): Useful and often used in the stellar works mentioned in the drawings (?) And also in non-jumia (?), such as knowing the distinction between countries and the distances between them one from another Ends (f. 3v, 16-18): ...and that Useful for the student of proofs in actions and the one who has the knowledge of analogy (?) in conditions May God bless him and all the seekers
