Notes
Alphabetically arranged handbook on pharmacology by Abū ‘Alī Yahyá ibn ‘Īsá (Abu Ali Yahya Ibn Isa, d. 1100), known as Ibn Jazlah (Ibn Jazlah), composed for the Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtadī bi-Amr Allāh (Al-Muqtadi Bi-Amr Allah, reg. 1075-94).
The copy is defective at the end; The final folio contains the beginning of Chapter
lām
(Chapter al-Lam, f. 269v).
Begins (f. 1v, lines 3-6):
Praise be to God, whose masterpieces have appeared and whose creations have dazzled
Through the manifestations of His creation, He indicates the gentleness of His wisdom, and bestows various blessings on creatures and encompasses creations
With different types of plants, fruits, benefits, and seas, it is irrigated with one water and we prefer
each other in eating...
Ends (f. 269v, lines 14-17):
...and he's so cute and in it
It is easy to catch and is ripe for the thick, sticky moisture and hair grows
The thinner, thickens it, preserves it with myrtle oil, and removes the dead fetus
And the placenta is smoking in a funnel, even if he drinks it with a drink of mind and desire
