Notes	Bibliographical encyclopaedia by the Ottoman scholar Muṣṭafá ibn ʿAbd Allāh (Mustafa ibn Abdullah, d.1067/1657), also known as Kâtip Çelebi (Katib Çelebi) and Ḥājjī Khalīfah (Haji Khalīfah). The work begins with an introductory section dealing with the classification of the science (ff. 1v-29v), followed by the main body of the encyclopaedia in which ca 14,500 books are listed alphabetically by title and given some commentary. This copy is dated Saturday 11 Shawwal 1126/9 October 1714 (see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. , f. 687r, lines 22-23, transcribed below). Contents: Part One (Part One, ff. 1v-395v); Part Two (Part Two, ff. 396r-687r). Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-3): The most beautiful speech emanates the lights of his kindness from the beginnings of books and pages and is most dazzling Speech that exudes the most blooming compassion on the pages of science and knowledge. Praise be to God, who made the essence of perfection Ends (f. 687r, lines 11-16): ...And we seek refuge in Him, may His name be glorified, from supplications that are not heard and knowledge that is not of benefit And his work is not exalted, for he is the horse that never disappoints or wins Whoever fails him, does not reject the call of those who seek it, and does not correct the work of the corruptors He is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs, and His blessings be upon His Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets And peace be upon all his family and companions until the Day of Judgment, and praise be to God Lord of the worlds Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. (f. 687r, lines 17-24): The so-called copy of the books was made by (?) the hand of the poorest of the many sinners Sudiya (?) for the high-serving person, the value (?) of the one who dispenses with praise and titles In fact, the titles make this noble man proud, and he is the son of the most knowledgeable of the trading scholars (?) The best of the virtuous and prudent, Secretary of Fatwas for the Passionate Sheikhs (?) The famous Mansouri Fort.
