Notes
Commentary by ʻAlī ibn Yaḥyá al-Maghīlī (Ali bin Yahya al-Maghīlī, active 1413), named in the present volume as Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿAṣnūnī al-Maghīlī (Abu al-Hasan Ali bin Saleh al-Asnouni al-Mughīlī, see f. 1v, lines 3-4), on a didactic treatise in verse on the law of inheritance shares (
farāʾiḍ
). The copy was completed on Sunday, 2 Rajab 1064 at noon, by Abū al-Qāsim al-Ṣadaqāwī (Abu al-Qasim al-Sidqawi), and dedicated to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Tabutadāwat al-ʿAbbāsī, ‘my brother, friend, and master’ (to my brother, beloved, and master, Abd al-Rahman ibn Tabutadawt Al-Abbasi, f. 114r, lines 6-8).
The work commented upon was written in 1237 by Ibrāhīm ibn Abī Bakr al-Tilimsānī, known as al-Burrī (Ibrahim ibn Abi Bakr al-Tilmisānī, famous for al-Bīrī, b. Tlemcen, 1212, d. Ceuta, 1291, see f. 1v, line 12), and a commentary upon it was also composed by al-Qalaṣādī (Al-Qalasadi), the author of the second text in the present volume.
The text is preceded by a page of prayers (f. 1r)
Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-7):
Sheikh Imam Al-Hafiz said
The hypothetical grammarian Abu Al-Hasan Ali bin Saleh
Al-Asanouni Al-Mughili, may God bless him at home
With His grace and generosity, Amen. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds
Praise be to God, the Possessor of generosity and generosity, who lavishes abundant blessings on His servants and bestows upon them eloquence
The tongue and conveying meanings from each other...
Ends (f. 114r, lines 1-4):
May God bless our master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace...
And upon his family and companions, may peace be upon him abundantly and always. There is no power nor strength except in God, the Most High
The great book of Al-Asnouni was completed with the praise of God and his good help, support and victory, and may God’s blessings be upon Sayyed
Na Muhammad Nabih...

...and it was completed on Sunday at the noon prayer two days ago a month ago
God Almighty, Rajab in the year 64 AD. God made us know its good and the good of what comes after it, and protect us from its evil and the evil of what comes after it.
After him, Amen, and there is no power nor strength except with God, the Most High, the Great, at the hands of the sinful and poor servant of God
Bu al-Qasim al-Sidqawi copied it for my brother, beloved, and master, Abd al-Rahman ibn Tabutdawt A
