Notes
Treatise by Ibn al-Haytham (Ibn al-Haytham, 965-1039) on one of the propositions of the Banū Mūsá (Banū Musa, fl. 9th century) on the proofs in the
Conics
(Κωνικά; Book of Conics) by Apollonius of Perga (Ἀπολλώνιος; Apollonius; fl ca 200 BC).
The treatise contains eight diagrams.
Beginnings (fol. 22v, lines 3-5):
One of the forms presented by the Banu Musa to the proofs of the Book of Conics is the final form of their introductions
It is different from the description with which they described it, and that is because they made it complete, but it is partial, despite that
They made an oversight in proving it...
Ends (ff. 32r, line 12-32v, line 1):
...And none of the diminished sections is used in cones, as it has been made clear from all
What we have made clear is that the issue that the Banu Musa ruled on in these two triangles is not a general issue, I mean
It is valid in some parts of these two triangles and invalid in some parts (fol. 32v)
