Commentary on Tanqīḥ al-uṣūl by ʻUbayd Allāh ibn Masʻūd al-Maḥbūbī (d. 747/1346), on uṣūl al-fiqh. | Ms. codex., Title from preamble (fol. 2a, l. 9)., 31 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh with elements of taʻlīq in black ink with use of red. Thin biscuit paper with laid lines visible. Ḥāshiyah on the margins. The first leaf consists of a later page pasted on the recto of an original folio. Water damage. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: “Uṣūl thānī 14”. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "857/2 ḥāʼ"., Copy completed in Harāt in Jumādá al-Thānī 859 [May-June 1455] (colophon, fol. 219a). What is movable and reasonable is beneficial in reaching the attained levels... [2a]... His saying, “Praise be to God, praise be to God,” is a condition of the one who is silent in relation to the “Ba,” meaning in the name of God, the Book begins with praise. Explicit: According to the wording of the existence of infallibility, God, may He be glorified and exalted, has protected us with His gracious help from following desires and enabled us, with His overwhelming kindness, to follow the path of guidance. Indeed, He is the Grantor of infallibility and success, and from Him is guidance to the straight path. May God’s blessings and peace be upon Muhammad, the Master of the Humans, peace and blessings be upon him. And upon his honorable family and companions, by his grace and generosity, O Lord of Glory and Honor Dark brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a blind stamped mandorla with a floral motif with a scalloped border outlined in gold. Outer frame made of blind tooled and gold painted fillets and guilloche. Blue and cream marbled paper pastedowns. Rebacked. | On fol. 1a: Seal reading "Muṣtafá Shawkat(?)" ; ownership statement in the name of al-Sayyid Aḥmad Nūrī, known as Nūḥādīʹzādah(?), with seal, reading “al-Sayyid Aḥmad Nūrī” ; erased statement dated 1226(?)
