Notes
Commentary on Majmaʻ al-Baḥrayn by Ibn al-Sāʻātī (d. 696/1296), a compendium on Ḥanafī law, based on the Mukhtaṣar by al-Qudūrī (d. 428/1037) and the Manẓūmah by al-Nasafī (d. 537/1142). The beginning of the text is supplied by a later hand. | Ms. codex., Title supplied by cataloger. Title on tail of text block: "Majmaʻ al-Baḥrayn"., Incipit: O He whose perfection cannot be encompassed by the description of the eloquent, and whose understanding of the thoughts of the virtuous is not entrusted to you... And then the weak says... Abd al-Latif ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Amin al-Din, may God seal his deeds with goodness... Some of my brothers and the most sincere ones who left me in the midst of clear company said that the Bahrain Council is a wonderful book... Praise be to God. Sucking began at the beginning of its classification with praise. Imitate the Book of God Almighty, the Praiseworthy. Beginning of original copy (fol. 15b): It is more correct because water is not given the ruling on use before separation, so it is not the first to meet. Explicit: Muhammad permitted it as a ramification of his words, i.e., to use it for his own interests, correcting him. This is the last of the words. Praise be to God for the completion and to His Messenger, the best of peace. The book was completed with the help of God, King Wahhab. Physical description: 33 lines per page. Written in medium small nash? In black ink with use of red for headings and to overline the commented text. Fol. 1-15 are later additions and replacements, with the beginning of the text on fol. 4b-15a. Fol. 15 is pasted on the recto of an original leaf. On fol. 1a-2a: Table of contents, entitled "Fihrist Majmaʻ al-Baḥrayn ṣāḥibuhu Munlā Ḥusayn ʻalayhi shifāʻāt Sayyid al-kawnayn", fol. 2a). On fol. 2b-3a: Short texts in Arabic and Ottoman Turkish, the first entitled "Duʻāʼ al-nikāḥ". Fol. 3 was pasted on the recto of fall. 4.
