Notes A work on fiqh, an epitome of the work called al-Hidāyah by ʻAlī ibn Abī Bakr al-Marghīnānī (d. 1196 or 7). | Ms. codex., Title from fol. 1a., Copied by al-Ḥajj ibn Aḥmad ibn Khalīl in 827 (1424) -- colophon (fol. 132b)., 13 lines per page. Written in small medium naskh in black ink with use of red for rubrication. Catchwords on the verso of each leaf. Foliation in Western numerals in pencil. Dark cream glazed paper with visible laid lines (a few sheets at the end of the ms. appear to be on different paper and one has a watermark). Extensive marginal and within the text annotation throughout. Fol. 1a has a table of contents. Some water and worm damage to paper., Incipit: Praise be to Him who made knowledge the most sublime of the divine talents, and bestowed it upon the Sunni ranks, and called it the best with which to begin speech. Explicit: And in sheep slaughtered therein are dead, and they are less and less desirable in choice | Marbled paper over pasteboard on covers and envelope flap. Light brown leather on spine and purple buckram on fore edge flap. Lining to the envelope flap in the same marbled paper and lining to the fore edge flap in the same purple buckram, while the covers have no lining and a blue layer of pasteboard is visible.
