Notes A two-volume commentary on the Qurʼan after the Hanafite school. | Ms. codex., Title from lower edge of text block., Marginal notes and summaries; evidently trimmed as some pages have folded edges to preserve notes. The work was composed for Sulaymān I 1520-1 566. It is stated in the colophon that the author completed the work in 1005 [1597]. This is undoubtedly a mistake, since the author died in 1574. List of contents for each volume on preliminary leaf., Collation: Paper ; fol. ii + 576 + i, ii + 570 + i ; catchwords ; vol. 2 has foliation in ink using Hindu-Arabic numberals ; both vols. have modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals., Layout: 27-33 lines per page ; partially frame-ruled in red and green (v. 1, up to f. 182)., Description: Rubricated ; watermarks (later endpapers: eagle with roman-alphabet letters "GFA" or "LAF", coat-of-arms with a lion; text: countermark initials "AH"? and "BT"? with trefoil, unidentified circular mark) ; MS in good condition., Decoration: Illuminated headpiece of gold, blue, and black. Opening spread frame-ruled in gold (v. 1, f. 1b-2a), Origin: Probably from XVIIIth century., Incipit: سبحان من ارسل رسوله بالهدى ودين الحق وبين له من شعائر الشرائع ... وبعد فيقول العبد الفقير الى رحمته ربه ال الهاوى ابو السعود ..., Colophon : کتب المؤلف عفا الله تعالى عنه في آخر نسخة الاصل اتفق الفراغ من تسويد هاتيك الاوراق بتوفيق الله عز سلطانه ليلة الجمعة الاولى من شهر الله الحرام شهر شعبان الفرد العالم [لعام] الف وخمس حامدًا لله رب العالمين ومصليا على سيدنا محمد صلى الله تعالى عليه وعلى سائر الانبياء المرسلين والملائکة المقربين اجميعن وسلم تسليما کثيرا. تم | Later type II (with flap) binding in green fabric over leather covers with blind-stamped mandorla with pendants.
