Praise be to God, who created the heavens and the earth, a praise that transcends the circumference of the circle of longitude and breadth... Then I do not swear to the Lord of the East and the West that I was in a time..., Colophon: This copy was numbered by the poorest of servants to his rich master, Muhammad Ayyad al-Shafi’i al-Azhari. May God forgive him, his parents, his brothers, his sheikhs, and his lovers. Praise be to God alone, and prayers and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet at the end of Jumada al-Thani in the year 1181, one hundred and eighty-one of the Prophet’s Hijra.
