Notes Treatise comprising an introduction, ten books (kitāb) and ten sections (bāb) on fiqh (Shāfiʻī), completed on Thursday 29 Shaʻbān 856 H. (see fol. 144b). Identical with Chester Beatty, no. 3207. The text is followed by a biographical treatise by the same author on the Shafiʻī judges in Miṣr and al-Shām since the beginning of the rule of the Turks in 648 H. (fol. 145b-150b; presented on fol. 144b). | Ms. codex., Title from beginning of text (fol. 3b, l. 28-29)., 35 to 37 lines per page. Written in small naskh in black ink, with use of red for headings and re-inking. Dark cream glazed paper with laid lines and chain lines visible. Table of contents (incomplete) on fol. 3b. Collation notes. Annotations on smaller pieces of paper between some leaves (see between fol. 28 and 29, 85 and 86). Fol. 1a-3a: several additions (fāʼidah). Fol. 151b: prayer. Some leaves are damaged (see fol. 11b), others are missing (see between fol. 3 and 4). Ownership statement on fol. 2a. Fol. 1a: label with inscription in Arabic "Dimashq 174". Foliation in pencil using Western numerals., The author says he entered the field in 822 H. (see fol. 3b, l. 25-26)., Incipit: بسم ... وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد واله الحمد لله الذى خلق الانسان وعلمه البيان واطلق فيه اللسان وفهّمه الاحكام لاقامة شرايع الاسلام ... اما بعد فان العدالة والقضايا من الوظايف الخطيرة, Explicit (fol. 144b): وللولي النظر الخاص فى الامور الجزيبة التى لا يجبط بها قاعدة فاستفده انتهى هذا ما تيسر جمعه والله تعالى اعلم بالصواب | Only the leather spine is extant. | Acquired from Abraham Shalom Yahuda, 1942. | Mach, R.
