characterful script page numbers in Arabic ciphers in upper margin — black — paper — The manuscript contains a collection of laws of the kingdom of Kedah. P. 1 contains some provisions on the formalities to be observed on the arrival of
ships; p. 2 also describes the procedure for the arrival of ships, followed by very
detailed provisions on trade: The duties and revenues of the official and the king,
the import duties for garments, slaves, tin. salt, etc., the conditions under which
foreigners can purchase certain goods and are allowed to sail upstream, etc. Occasionally
the princes to whom the introduction of individual provisions was attributed are mentioned
by name. From p. 16 to 22, 16 sections follow, in which the punishments for some offenses are
mentioned and regulations for worship and agriculture are given. Then the annual tribute
to the king of Siam - called bunga mas dan pezaq - is laid down and explained.
