| Notes | On the postcard, Evkaf Apartment and Evkaf houses located on Istiklal Street (Baruthane) can be seen. It is understood from the old Turkish script on the back of the postcard that it is a holiday card written on 15.04.1937. EVKAF (II.VAKIF) APARTMENT The apartment building was built by Architect A. Kemalettin Bey between 1928 and 1930 by the General Directorate of Foundations in order to generate income through rent. It has six floors on the ground where the shops are located. Its most important feature is that there is a theater and shops on the first floor. The hall was put into service as a Small Theater in 1947. Today, the building serves as the General Directorate of State Theatres, Small Theater and Chamber Theatre. BARUTHANE (İSTİKLAL) STREET Baruthane Street, which forms a triangle with İstasyon and Bankalar Street, is a street formed in the first years of the Republic. II. Evkaf Apartment (1929), Belle Vue (Belvü) Palas, one of Ankara's first large hotels, and Foundation Officer's Houses form one side of the street, while on the other side of the street is the Youth Park, the construction of which started in the 1940s. The street ends with the Ottoman Bank. |
