Mr. Firuz, the owner of a liquor store in central Tehran, is the first to realize that something big is brewing. Completely unexpectedly, his own son, the leader of a marauding gang of teenagers, appears in front of the window of his parents' shop and literally throws the first stone. As more and more residents of the neighborhood join the Basidishi militia, which is close to Khomeini, people argue, pray and shoot in front of his shop, while at the same time hope grows that perhaps something good can emerge from the ruins of the overthrown monarchy. But the revolutionary forces become more and more radicalized and ultimately establish the oppressive regime that replaced the corrupt tyranny of Pahlavi with a despotic theocracy from which the liberal forces in the country still suffer today. Amir Hassan Cheheltan was 22 and a student when the first leaflets calling for the Shah's overthrow appeared on the walls of houses. His memories of neighbors and friends at the time, of anger, chaos and the daily struggle for normality open up a panorama of Iranian society in times of protest, violence and uncertainty and are both knowledgeable and personal testimony to the events that shook Iran, Tehran and especially the microcosm of his neighborhood in 1978 and 1979.
