What do stories preserve? What is told and what is left out? In the summer of 1949, a Palestinian Bedouin girl is raped, murdered and buried in the desert by Israeli soldiers. Decades later, a young woman from Ramallah tries to find out more about this incident. She is fascinated, even obsessed, by it, not just because of the nature of the crime, but more importantly because it was committed twenty-five years to the day before she was born. A peripheral detail, but one that links her own life to that of the girl. Adania Shibli weaves the stories of both women into a haunting meditation on war, violence and the question of justice in storytelling.
