Notes
One volume of a Qur'ān set, of which RBML holds three volumes under separate shelfmarks; See also MSS Or. 257 and 258. Shelfmark: MS Or 256. Origin: Item is undated, but perhaps copied in the 15th to the mid-16th century. Decoration: Surah titles in gold outlined in black. Gold eight petal rosettes with pink center lined by pink and blue dots mark verse endings. Script: Written in mamluk style naskh in black ink; pointed, vocalized. Arabic. Title supplied by cataloger. Manuscript codex. Given as a waqf (charitable endowment) for al-Sayyid Muṣṭafá al-Bakrī (inscription dated 1161/1748, f. 1r).. Complete section, containing the bismillāh and first word of 17 to the last word of 18. Folios 9 and 12 are a rewritten inserts in a different hand. A full page illumination seems to have been covered over or transferred by contact to f. 1r; small sections and a shadow are visible.
