Notes Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 982 Origin: Lacks dated scribal colophon ; likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 131 Binding: Boards covered in black textured cloth ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a geometric pattern (resembling a scale pattern) in olive green or dull gold ; cover gold-stamped with "النفس وبقاؤها" ; sewn in white thread over two recessed cords ; overall in fairly good condition. Support: Machine wove paper. Decoration: Text executed entirely in pencil. Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand in a thin line ; serifless and freely ligatured with effect of inclination to the left and of words descending to baseline, mainly closed counters, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed. Layout: Written mainly in 13 lines per page. Collation: i, II (4), 8 IV(68), i ; almost exclusively quaternions ; catchwords present ; pages between sections (which correspond to gatherings) left blank, some serving as 'title pages' (see pp.9, 25, 41, 57, 73, 89, 105, 121) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Explicit: "فلما كان نفسه الناطقة التي هي من عالم النور ... المعاني نازلة الى عالم الصور بعد جوازة عالم الافلاك المشتملة على النسب الشريفة العددية الايقاعية والنغمية التذ برؤية الانوار واستماع النفمات المترنمة هذا ملخص الجواب على وجه الاجاملي" Incipit: "هذا سفر في النفس وبقؤها ومشتمل على فصول فصل النفس الانسانية كلمة نورية وذات روحانية وشعلة ملكوتية لا تموت بموت البدن ..."
