Notes Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 1017 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; calligraphic style, paper, etc. would suggest late 18th or early 19th century. Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 166 Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark olive-green leather ; Type III binding ; board linings and hinges in yellow-tinted paper ; upper and lower covers carry blind-tooled mandorla, pendants and border in a series of s-shaped stamps flanked by blind rules ; sewn in heavy lime green thread, six stations ; overall in fairly good condition with minor staining, etc. Support: Wove paper, well-burnished ; written area gold-flecked. Decoration: Written area gold-flecked and surrounded by frame consisting of narrow bands of red, gold, and blue defined by black fillets ; margin also surrounded by black fillets. Script: Naskh ; exquisitely executed, large, bold Persianate hand, reminiscent of the style perfected by Aḥmad Nayrīzī (though with the sharp leftward serif on lām appearing only rarely, e.g. p.28) ; partially seriffed with right-sloping head-serif on ṭāʼ and ẓāʼ, free-standing alif sans serif and slightly tapered, two dots occasionally written vertically (one above the other), final yāʼ usually unpointed, sweeping descenders, adhering to baseline apart from occasional superscript of letters, fully vocalized. Layout: Written in 9 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: 3 IV(24), III (30) ; quaternions followed by final ternion ; final leaf left blank ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Explicit: "قد تناول الاقرباء اطراف جنازتي وارحم في ذلك البيت المظلم وحشتي وغربتي ووحدتي" Incipit: "الهي البستني الخطايا ثوب مذلتي وجللني التباعد منك لباس مسكنتي ..." Title supplied by cataloguer.
