Notes
Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 928 Origin: As appears in authorial colophon on p.193, composition completed in Mashhad in the latter part of Jumādá II 895 [May 1490]. Lacks dated scribal colophon, though likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and eventually bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 77 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "تحقيق | مذاهب الشيعة | للطاهر الخلي | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition. Support: Wove paper of a few different types, lined and unlined. Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand in a medium line ; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, slight effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed. Layout: Written mainly in 24-27 lines per page. Collation: Pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Colophon: "Authorial," reads "وقد فرغت من تسويده في اواخر شهر جمادى الاخرى احد شهور سنة خمس وتسعين وثمانمائة بالمشهد العلوي..." Title supplied by cataloguer. Ms. codex. On upper pastedown label with ex libris of James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974), stamped with inventory number, "Ex Libris | J. Heyworth-Dunne | D. Lit. (London) | No 7969" ; UM Library inscription on 'title page' (p.3) "Dunning | Heyworth-Dunne | 6-11-51 | 71955" ; possible former inventory mark in pencil on verso of final leaf (p.194) "231 / 53" ; marginal glosses.. Careful though acephalous copy (seemingly completing the text which appears in Isl. Ms. 921) of what appears to be Ibn Abī Jumhūr's (d. after 1499) Kitāb al-Mujlī or Mujlī mirʼāt al-Nūr al-munjī, a supercommentary upon his own kalām work, Maslak al-afhām fī ʻilm al-kalām and its commentary, al-Nūr al-munjī min al-ẓalām. Compare close (pp.192-193) with pp.584-585 in the 2008 reprint of Aḥmad al-Shīrāzī's lithograph edition.
