Accompanying materials: Two scraps of paper with notes (paginated pp.177-178 and pp.199-200). Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 7. Aurad wa-ahzab." ; "۲۷۳" on tail of textblock. Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in a green surface-tinted wove paper ; upper and lower covers bear gold-stamped central panel, cornerpieces, and border (mainly rosettes and leaves) ; sewn in black thread, two and four stations, loose in some places ; overall in fair condition with some abrasion, staining, label affixed to upper cover, textblock detaching from spine, some negative draw in upper cover and flap, etc. Support: European laid paper mainly with 11 laid lines per cm. (horizontal), chain lines spaced 26 mm. apart (vertical), and watermarks including eagle (wings spread), lion rampant in shield with crown above ; some quires in European wove paper ; all thin (though sturdy) and well-burnished. Decoration: Keywords in some sections rubricated ; elsewhere occasional abbreivation symbols and marginalia (mainly notabilia/side-heads) rubricated ; appears that in some sections lacunae were left for textual dividers or rubricated keywords, headings, etc. Script: Naskh ; elegant Ottoman hand ; right-sloping head serifs ; effect of slight tilt to the left ; pointing in distinct dots ; mainly open counters ; graceful curvilinear descenders ; fully vocalized. Layout: Written mainly in 13, 15 and 17 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, II (4), VI (16), V (26), I (28), IV (36), XI (58), V (68), IV (76), 2 III (88), I (90), IV+2 (100), III (106), VIII (122), I (124), i ; catchwords present ; pagination in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves and inserts).
