Notes About: Careful copy of an apparent abridgment of Kitāb al-Maẓāhir al-ilāhīyah, a philosophical work by Mullā Ṣadrā Shīrāzī (d.1641), renowned philosopher of the Ṣafavid period, bound up with a section labeled "المبدأ والمعاد" likely intended as the third section of Isl. Ms. 979 and Isl. Ms. 980 (see pp.81-112). | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 965 Origin: Lacks dated scribal colophon ; likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 114 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "رسالة المظاهر للشيرازي | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition. Support: Machine wove paper of two different types, one beige in color, the other medium cream. Decoration: Text executed entirely in red ink. Script: Ruqʻah ; careful, compact hand in a medium line ; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots. Layout: Written mainly in 11 lines per page. Collation: Pages between sections left blank with some serving as 'title pages' (see pp.41, 81, 113) ; pagination in pencil, Hindu-Arabic numerals through p.39 ; at p.40 begins pagination in pencil, Western numerals, presumably supplied during digitization ; leaves left blank or partially blank between sections. Explicit: "فانصب في طب الرضا والى ربك فارغب في محبته تم الكتاب" Incipit: "سبحانك اللهم يا مفيض الجود والوجود ويا ولي الفضل والنور يا شافي امراض الصدور ...اما بعد لما كان افضل السعادات والوسائل ورئيس الحسنات والفضائل اكتساب الحكمة الحقة الالهية وتكميل القوة النظرية بتحصيل العلوم الحقيقية والمعارف اليقينية ..."
