Notes About: Clear copy of the Ṣūfī work attributed to Aḥmad ibn ʻAlī al-Rifāʻī (d.1182), founder of the Rifāʻīyah order. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 599 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; paper, hand, etc. suggest 19th century, perhaps latter 19th century. Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda -- b. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover and spine label "IL 33" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark purplish-red cloth with red leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Western style binding ; pastedowns and flyleaves in yellow wove paper ; spine stamped with rows of anular motifs ; sewn in white thread, two or four stations, varies ; overall in fairly good condition with only minor abrasion, etc. Support: European wove paper ; crisp, light brown in color. Decoration: Headings and keywords 'rubricated' (red to purple ink) ; overlining and textual dividers in the form of hāʼ in same red-purple ink. Script: Naskh with elements of ruqʻah ; compact hand ; partially seriffed with sharp leftward serif on occasional lām (particularly final, freestanding lām in قال) with slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders, pointing mainly in strokes though three dots usually distinct, closed and open counters. Layout: Written in 19 lines per page ; impression of ruling board evident. Collation: i, 11 V(110), IV (118), V (128), IV (136), I (138), i ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Explicit: "ببروق انوار هدايته داعين الى طريق اتباعه مزينين بزينة متابعته عالمين بما يرث لنا رضاك ... امين يا ارحم الراحمين امين يا ارحم الراحمين امين يا ارحم الراحمين ولا حول ولا قوة الا بالله العلي العظيم وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد وعلى اله ... واصحابه مع البركات والتسليم اجمعين م م م م م م م م م م م" Incipit: "الحمد لله الملك المنان الجواد المقدس عن الامثال والانداد الذي حكم على الخلائق في ازل الازل بالاشقاء [و] الاسعاد ... وبعد فيقول جامع هذا الكتاب هداه الله الى طريق الحق والصواب لا يخفي على ارباب البصائر والمعالي اولى الدرجات والذخائر الموالي ..."
