Ms. 453 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.512, copied by Muʼmin ibn Khwājah ibn Mūsá ( Mümin bin Hoca bin Musa ) with transcription completed mid-Ramaḍān 851 [November 1447] in Sāmsūn [?] (i.e. Samsun ?). Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda (for all four volumes, now Isl. Ms. 453, 454, 455, 456) -- b. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas -- c. Slip with title and inventory number in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas (paginated pp.47-48). Former shelfmark: From inner front cover and spine label, "IL 344a I" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather with red leather repairs to spine and fore edge flap (now lost) ; Type II binding (with flap, now lost) ; doublures (board linings) in an elegant marbled paper (mainly in lavender, red, and dark blue over white) with hinges in shell marbled paper (in blue, pink and yellow) ; upper and lower covers carry large blind-stamped (with tan leather recessed onlay) mandorla (filled with vegetal composition, compare Déroche class. NA 6) with gold-painted accents and tooled pendants (a cluster of rosette stamps), as well as tooled and gold-painted border ; sewn in red and yellow thread, four stations ; worked chevron endbands in pink and light yellow (tail, fair condition) and red and yellow (head, quite good condition) overall in poor condition with significant abrasion and staining, flap lost, lifting and losses of leather (especially at board edges), upper cover detaching, etc. ; repairs in red leather (also damaged). Support: non-European (likely Arab) paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines grouped in threes with 8-10 mm. between chains and 40-45 mm. between groups ; well-burnished, thick and sturdy, dark cream to beige in color. Decoration: Keywords and section headings rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas or hāʼ in red ; overlining in orange-red. Script: Naskh ; elegant, compact Turkish hand with Persianate features in a medium line ; serifless with effect of tilt to the left (occasionally to the right), slight effect of words descending to baseline (occasionally more exaggerated), rounded but with more rectilinear descenders, pointing mainly in strokes rather than distinct dots, some elongation of horizontal strokes, freely ligatured, hāʼ mudghamah looking like two inverted commas ; partially vocalized. Layout: Written in 25 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, V-1 (9), 24 V(249), II+1 (254), i ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords present but occasionally cut off ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves).
