About: Clear copy of selections from a collection of prayers categorized by type by ʻAbd al-Jalīl ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʻAẓẓūm al-Murādī al-Qayrawānī (d.1553?). | Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; paper suggests 17th century ; note on final leaf dated 1078 (1667 or 1668).
Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 65. Kamus al-salawat." ; "٢٨٧" on tail of textblock.
Binding: Pasteboards covered in marbled paper (salmon, yellow, blue, green, etc.) with dark red leather over spine, foreedge flap, and edges/turn-ins ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in European laid paper ; sewn in light pink thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in cream, only headband intact ; overall in fair condition with some staining, abrasion, lifting and losses of leather of foreedge flap, etc.
Support: European laid paper mainly with 10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 28 mm. apart (horizontal), and three hats watermark ; well-burnished.
Decoration: Some section headings and keywords rubricated (and others in blue-green ink, see pp.87-104) ; occasional textual dividers in the form of red discs.
Script: Naskh-nastaʻlīq (talik) ; virtually serifless ; effect of tilt to the right ; occasional slight effect of words descending to baseline ; elongation of horizontal strokes.
Layout: Written mainly in 27 lines per page ; opening and closing matter in single column, otherwise in two irregular columns.
Collation: i, 2 VI(24), 4 V(64), XII (88), X (108), V-1 (117) ; final leaf of final quire pastedown (text carried onto pastedowns) ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals (includes pastedowns and front flyleaf).
Incipit: "اختصر هذا في كتاب تنبيه الانام في بيان علو مقام نبينا محمد عليه افضل الصلاة وازكى السلام تأليف العبد الفقير الى الله ... عبد الجليل بن محمد بن احمد بن عظوم المرادي القيرواني غفر الله له ولوالديه آمين الحمد لله الذي زين سماء الاذكار بالصلاة على النبي المختار ... وبعد فانه لما كانت الصلوة على النبي الاكرم والرسول المعظم صلى الله عليه وسلم
