About: Careful copy of a philosophical treatise on logic (perhaps representing abridgment of another), lacking preamble and ending somewhat abruptly. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 974
Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974).

Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "مدارك العلوم | J.H.D." ; seemingly sewn over three recessed cords, tightly bound and difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition.
Support: Wove paper of at least three different types.
Decoration: Text executed entirely in a pinkish-red ink.
Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand in a medium to bold line ; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, effect of inclination to the left and of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots.
Layout: Written mainly in 10-15 lines per page.
Collation: i, 5 IV(40), 2 V(60), VI (72), 3 (75), i ; chiefly quaternions ; pages between sections (corresponding to gatherings) left blank, some serving as section 'title pages' (see pp.17, 33, 47, 63, 79, 97, 117, 141) ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Hindu-Arabic numerals ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (mistakenly skips two pages between pp.39-40 and 95-96).
Explicit: "والكون الى الدنيا حبالة الوهم التي يقود بها الناس الى حزن طويل بل خالد"
Incipit: "الغرض من المنطق التمييز بين الصدق والكذب في الاقوال والخير والشر في الافعال ..."
