Notes
About: Careful copy of what appears to be excerpts from the treatise by al-Shaykh Raslān, Arslān ibn Yaʻqūb al-Jaʻbarī (d.1300) on divine oneness, with some commentary. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 992
Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974).
Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 141
Binding: Boards covered in black textured cloth ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a geometric pattern (resembling a scale pattern) in olive green or dull gold ; cover gold-stamped with "رسالة المولى رسلان حقيقة التوحيد" ; sewn in white thread over two recessed cords ; overall in fairly good condition.
Support: Wove paper.
Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand in a medium to bold line (ink and line thickness changes, black to grey-blue, though appears to be same hand) ; serifless and freely ligatured with effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, mainly closed counters, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed ; some passages in a large, fine naskh.
Layout: Written mainly in 9-11 lines per page.
Collation: i, 5 IV(40), i ; possible quire number on p.80 (suggesting that gatherings are not in original order) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
