About: Fine (though defective) copy of Mukhtār ibn Maḥmūd al-Zāhidī's commentary on al-Qudūrī's Mukhtaṣar, a concise manual of Ḥanafī law ; acephalous and ending abruptly with end wanting. See Mich. Binding: Pasteboards covered in once marbled paper with dark brown leather over spine, foreedge flap and edges/turn-ins ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in laid European paper ; sewn in dark yellow thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and blue, headband intact, tailband damaged with half missing ; overall in poor condition with severe abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather, staining, moisture damage, pest damage, etc.
Support: European laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical) and chain lines spaced 28 mm. apart (horizontal) ; watermarks include crown star crescent (compare Heawood 1132) and three crescents (tre lune) ; thick and burnished ; some blocking, smudging, and staining.
Decoration: Section headings rubricated ; overlining of matn in red and black.
Script: Naskh ; fine, clear Turkish hand ; virtually serifless ; effect of tilt to the left ; many open counters ; rightward descenders tapered ; pointing in joined dots, forming lines or curves ; point of final nūn often assimilated with bowl.
Layout: Written in 15 (pp.1-176), 17 (pp.177-216) and 23 (pp.226-434) lines per page ; frame-ruled.
Collation: 4 V (40), IV (48), 12 V(168), IV (176), V (186), VI (198), IV+1 (207), V (217) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; foliation in red ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals, opens with folio '۱ ۸' on p.1, visible only on first three leaves ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
