(1b) In the name of God... We praise You, O God... As for what follows, the slender servant Omar bin Hussein bin Ali Al-Amdi says... The masters of minds and the people of speech have agreed that the sciences, with the diversity of their arts and the abundance of their problems, have the highest demands and the highest positions, and that the legal sciences are among them the noblest and most useful knowledge, and the most complete and highest knowledge, especially the science of principles, in which the minds of great people are perplexed... and the honorable servants have been classified in it. And the virtuous among the great investigators wrote useful books and narrated notes, some brief and some lengthy.... I wanted.. to explain it in a middle way, not abbreviated or simple, clarifying the obscure meanings and clarifying his money and what he owes.... (318a) The weak, poor servant says...
