(1b) Praise be to God who guided us in the beginning to the knowledge of guidance... The servant says... Muhammad ibn al-Mahmoud ibn Ahmad al-Hanafi... As for what follows, the Book of Guidance... the essence of its words are pure... and yet its essence may have been hidden... That is why... Al-Sanaqi... opposed it... explained it... and called it Al-Nihayah... and they used to recite it (657a)... When it was permissible for him to pray in it while he was impure with certainty, it is permissible to investigate the case of initial suspicion. ... The completion of the draft explanation of Al-Hidaya occurred... at the end of Dhul-Hijjah on the twenty-third day... in the year nine hundred and sixty-six... Written by Mustafa bin Abdul-Hay Tamm al-Maram.
