Notes	Most of the folios are divided into square or rectangular compartments filled with drawings of a wide variety of repeating patterns, often with figural motifs but most with stylised floral elements. There are also rubbings, woodblock prints and a few drawings, mostly of objects and sprays of flowers, some coloured and some occupying a full page. Many patterns were drawn directly on the pages but others were pasted in.The designs based on human figures – including dancers, acrobats and mounted riders – are among the most creative. But of greater complexity are some with animals; fish, cobras, birds, elephants, squirrels, lions, tigers, camels and deer are represented. Some of the patterns are inspired by traditional Mughal decorative motifs, while others are European in taste.The pattern book had the potential to be of great use to jewellers and enamellers as well craftsmen working in textiles, manuscript illumination, bidri-ware and other metalwork, ceramic paving and marquetry work.
