| Notes | The author is Mehmed Akif Pasha, the last Ottoman Reîsülküttâb (Minister of Foreign Affairs). He was the son of Ayıntabîzâde Mehmed Efendi from the Bozok district of Yozgat, was born in 1787, and died in Alexandria in 1845. He is considered one of the founders of new style literature. This work consists of the author's own defense and a detailed account of the incident that resulted from an Englishman named Churchill accidentally wounding a Turkish child while hunting, which ultimately led to the dismissal of Akif Pasha. The work was translated into French by A. Alric. See Encyclopedia of Islam, I, p. 242; O.M., II, p. 324. |
