Notes
Collection of poetic compositions in varied forms and genres by the polymath translator, philosopher, Sufi, and poet, Shaykh Abū al-Fayz̤ ibn Shaykh Mubārak Nāgawrī, takhalluṣ Fayz̤ī and Fayyāz̤ī (d. 1004/1595), who was made poet laureate or malik al-shuʿarāʾ in 997/1589 at the court of the Timurid (Mughal) Emperor Akbar I (d. 1014/1605). The colophon to item d refers to the volume as a kullīyāt, however it is not the formal title as the volume is far from comprehensive, lacking the prose works, collection of refined correspondence, and the lengthier poetic compositions making up the poet’s incomplete Khamsah. Volume not dated; items a and d dated (28 November 1829-15 January 1840). Awkward but clear nastaʿlīq. Red and blue jadval rulings. Rudimentary sarlawḥ on folios 1v and 123r. Limited annotations and corrections in margins. Intermittent pencil and regular Persian foliation. Lacking original binding. Detached binding damaged (deep reddish brown leather exterior, pasteboards exposed without doubleurs), labelled. Folios mostly bound, occasional loose leaves; cropped, water stains, limited wormholes, curling edges. Condition poor.
