Notes
Important early volume dating from the author’s lifetime and owned by a member of the author’s circle of associates. Compendious collection or kullīyāt of poetic compositions in varied forms and genres by the polymath literary commentator, Persian grammarian, and poet Mīr Shams al-Dīn ʿAbbāsī Dihlavī with the takhalluṣ Faqīr and Maftūn (d. 1183/1769), the son of Sayyid ʿIvaz̤ Khān (deputy governor of Lahore), a descendent of Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Kishīkī ʿAbbāsī according to a note added at the beginning by the former owner of this volume, Fatḥ ʿAlī Ḥusaynī Riz̤avī Gardīzī, author of the Taz̲kirah-'i Bībadal-i Hindī (a study of early poets of Rekhtah/Urdu). The author found patronage at Lucknow after fleeing the chaos of imperial Delhi. Internal signs indicate the volume is a composite of at least two volumes, with the items originally in a different order, probably beginning with the qaṣāʾid (presently commencing with item e). Volume not dated; item h dated 15 Jumādá al-Avval 1182/27 September 1768. Indian taʿlīq. Intermittent foliation in pencil. Lacking original binding. Paper dust wrapper (BEIC legal publication on Regulation XX for 1817); watermarks not visible; labels, torn and stained. Folios unbound; stains, substantially worm eaten, cropped. Condition fragile.
