Sample Text
Fol. 1b.2 The Book of Interpretation of Drugs, Their Substitutions, and Actions of Medicines, which was intended to be compiled and written by Khalaf bin Abbas Al-Ansari Al-Zahrawi. The author said, “I know, may God have mercy on you and us, that when I completed all of this book, I found in it that I had copied from it copies of medicines by name, drugs, in Syriac, Greek, Persian, and Arabic, so I interpreted from them what was correct to me, and from what I found translated from it, I browsed the books of scholars, wise men, philosophers, etc. I took it orally from the mouths of scholars, and I summarized it and approached it according to the understanding of the people of our country, with my intention that it would be understood so that those who were responsible for writing this book would be trusted. Then I added to the names, replacing the drugs one with another, so I mentioned their ages and mentioned the compounded medications, and I collected all of that in this noble article and psychological repertoire according to my ability and effort, and I divided it into five chapters and weighed it all according to the letters of the dictionary. There is no power nor strength except By God, the Most High, the Great. The first chapter is about the division of drugs according to different languages. The second chapter is about the interpretation of common nouns written by them other than drugs. The third chapter is about replacing drugs with one another if they are missing. The fourth chapter is about organs, drugs and compounded medicines.
