Notes
Significantly rare collection of works on literature, religious doctrine and philosophy by the famous poet, philosopher and theologian, Muḥammad Davvānī (d. 918/1512), dating to the period of the author’s activity and probably copied in the Kazerun region. The copy was later owned by the multitalented and polymath poet, philosopher, physician, mathematician, astronomer, inventor of military machines (e.g. autocannon), courtier and close confidante of Timurid Emperor Akbar I , ʿAz̤ud al-Dawlah Mīr Fatḥ Allāh ibn Abū al-Fatḥ Gīlānī (d. 997/1589). Volume not dated; items d and g dated (Rajab 900/April 1495). Minute scribal nastaʿlīq tending toward shikastah āmīz in parts; occasional use of naskh. Annotations in margins, several by original scribe or patron, as well as later owners. Foliation in pencil. Lacking original binding. Binding damaged (painted brown leather over delaminating pasteboards exposing inner material), labels. Folios unbound; stains, excessively cropped, wormholes, later repairs. Condition extremely fragile; not suitable for handling.
