Notes First volume of an elegant copy in seven volumes (see fol. 1a) of an encyclopedia on the art of writing and composition, comprising an introduction, 10 parts (maqālāt), and a conclusion (see description of contents in preamble, fol. 3b-11a). This volume comprises the text up to the end of Maqālah 1. Bāb 2, Faṣl 1 (see colophon, fol. 355b). It is written by Rizq Allāh ibn Niʻmat Allāh Ḥassūn (1825-1880). | Ms. codex., Title from title page (fol. 1a)., Physical description: 23 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh in black ink with use of red; larger script for headings. Sheets of paper decorated with a wide arabesque border surrounding a large gilt frame defining the undecorated writing surface., According to colophon, copy completed on Yawm al-Sabt 5 Aylūl [Sept. 5] 1874 by Rizq Allāh ibn Niʻmat Allāh Ḥassūn al-Ḥalabī mawladan al-Lundunī hijratan (fol. 355b)., Incipit: الحمد لله جاعل المرء باصغريه قلبه ولسانه والمتكلم باجمليه فصاحته وبيانه راقم حقايق المعانى باقلام الالهام على صفحات الافكار ... وبعد فلما كانت الكتابة من اشرف الصنايع وارفعها واربح البضائع وافضل المآثر واعلاها, Explicit: على مقادير قطع الورق عند اهل التوقيع واهل الديونة عند ذكر ورق كل فن وما يناسبه من القطع ان شآء الله تعالى | Western style brown leather binding.
