Praise be to God, who taught with the pen. He taught man what he did not know... And after a group of students of writing asked me to write for them an introduction to the principles of calligraphy..., Colophon: The work was completed with God’s help and generosity. And his good success, and praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, on the date of the month of Jumada al-Awwal, the year one thousand eighty-eight, in the city of the house of the perfect jurist, Sidi Ahmad bin Musa Ibn Ajil. May God restore His blessings to us and the Muslims, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our Master and Lord Muhammad and his family and companions.
