Notes A biographical dictionary of eminent divines of the Malikite school, arranged according to the alphabetical order of their names, with some other biographical additions by Shams al-Dīn Abū al-Khayr Muḥammad ibn ʻAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sakhāwī. | Ms. codex., Title from title page (fol. 1a)., Marginal notes; marginal summaries. al-Sakhāwī states in the introduction that he arranged the book and added in a supplement some of the biographies as found in al-Madārik, probably Madārik al-tanzīl wa ḥaqāʼiq al-taʼwīl, by Ḥāfiẓ al-Dīn Abū al-Barakāt ʻAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad al-Nasafī, 710 [1310/1]. On the folio before the title page occurs a brief biographical sketch of Ibn Farḥūn quoted from Nayl al-ibtihāj bi-taṭrīz al-Dībāj by Aḥmad Bābā [ibn Aḥmad al-Timbuktī], 1032 [1622/3]., Collation: Paper ; fol. (1) + 225 ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals., Layout: 29 lines per page., Description: Rubricated ; overwriting and overlining in red ; some vowel signs ; some paper tinted dark brown ; MS in fair condition but foxed and worm-eaten; pages are loose. MS is rare., Origin: According to colophon copy completed Saturday end of Shawwāl 939 by Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī al-Dāwūdī al-Mālikī (fol. 225b)., Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم. الحمد لله باري النسم مبيد الامم باعث الامم ... وبعد فان اولى ما اتحف به الطالب اللبيب ..., Colophon: اخر الکتاب اعان الله على اکماله وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد واله وصحبه وسلم تسليما کثيرا اتهى. وعلقه محمد على الداودي المالکي في مدة اخرها يوم السبت قبل غروب شمس يومه سلخ شوال سنة تسع وثلاثين وتسعمائة | Later type II (with flap) binding in brown leather. Blind-stamped mandorla and blind-tooled edging on covers. Similar decoration on flap.
