Notes	It is an explanation of the poem Nazm al-Juman fi Dhikr Min Salaf Min al-Zaman, which was attributed to Abd al-Rahman al-Bistami, who died in the year 843 AH/1439 AD, and which was also attributed to Abdullah al-Shafi’i. The author’s translation appears on the title page of the first part, taken from the chronicle “Anas al-Jalil fi Akhbar al-Quds wa al-Haleel” by Judge Majd al-Din Abi al-Yaman Abd al-Rahman al-Ulaimi, who died in the year 927 AH/1520 AD, and it reads: “Sheikh Shihab al-Din Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Omar al-Shafi’i, the famous historian, son of Abu Uthaybah’s wife, who was not from Jerusalem. He read the Qur’an and dabbled in knowledge. He was one of the jurists of the Salihi school, paid attention to the science of history, and wrote two histories, one of which was This one is lengthy, and the other is short. He died on Friday the fifteenth of Rabi’ al-Akhir, eight hundred and fifty-six years old, and was buried at the Gate of Mercy. The book is divided into five parts, and this volume includes the first part.
