He said to the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: I do work for God’s sake, so if I see it I am pleased. He said: “God does not accept what you associate with Him.” So it was revealed in confirmation of him, and on the authority of him, peace be upon him: “Beware of minor polytheism,” he said, “hypocrisy.” The verse encompasses the two salvations of knowledge and action, which are monotheism and sincerity in obedience. On the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, “Whoever recites it on his bed will have a light in his bed that will shine all the way to Mecca.”
