The original poem is by Muhammad al-Amin al-Kanimi, the sheikh (i.e. ruler) of the state of Borno (d. 1253/1837), and its beginning: Naseem al-Sabbah, I swayed a quarter with a kukawa, and I watched who was at the door hesitating.
