Notes It was originally compiled in about eighty volumes and includes the events of Damascus, the history of the countries in which it followed, the arts in which it became famous, biographies of scholars, notables, hadith scholars, jurists, and writers who were born or lived or had a relationship with the city of Damascus, or who came to it and passed through its works arranged in alphabetical order. He added a mention of famous women, a description of the Levant, the virtues of its people, the merits of its location, news of its conquests, the beauty of its mosques and the Umayyad Mosque in particular, and mention of its churches, houses, rivers, and cemeteries. He mentioned the Messenger Muhammad, and it is a great history similar to the history of Baghdad by Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi. Although the manuscript is precious and rare, some letters are missing. The author also has many classifications in hadith, jurisprudence, language, and history, and his name was mentioned in Kashf al-Zunun thus: Abu al-Qasim Ali bin al-Hasan bin Hibatullah Thiqa al-Din (Ibn Abdullah) Ibn Asakir al-Dimashqi al-Shafi’i (499 AH - 571 AH).
