Notes
Brockelmann mentioned in his appendix that the author had a trip to Tripoli, the Levant. The copy is followed by three pages related to the benefits of the siwak, added to what is in the manuscript, perhaps copied in the handwriting of one of the Sheikh’s students. This is not the first article on the siwak. Other articles have been written on this subject, including the book on the siwak and the like, by Shihab al-Din Abi al-Qasim Abd al-Rahman bin Ismail bin Ibrahim al-Maqdisi al-Shafi’i, known as Abu Shama, around the middle of the thirteenth century AD.
Sample Text
After that, someone dear to me wanted me to compile for him a nice overview of the rulings on the siwak and its benefits, so I responded to his request (which is in four chapters) about the virtues of the siwak, its rulings, its benefits, and nice things related to it.
