This book is an abbreviation and embellishment of the book “Al-Kamal fi Asma Al-Rijal” written by Al-Hafiz Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi, who died in the year 600 AH/1203 AD. It deals with the biographies of men of hadith and narrations arranged according to the letters of the dictionary, and in the course of biographies it reaches the beginning of the letter saad. His master, Al-Hafiz Al-Mizzi, tells us that he corrected many of the shortcomings in it and added to it some names that he omitted. This amounted to an increase of one thousand seven hundred names, thus making it an independent book.
