Notes - The author of the first completed book is Ibn Sina. T: 428 AH = 1037 AD. Ibn Sina did not write “The Mathematics of Survival,” but rather his student (Al-Jawzjani) summarized it. See regarding this “continuation”: its editions, explanations, translation, and manuscript copies: (“From the Works of Ibn Sina,” pp. 94-99), and (“Anecdotes of Arabic Manuscripts in Turkish Libraries” 1: 117). - The author is a jurist and philosopher who was one of Ibn Sina’s close associates and one of his students. He was the one who helped him compile the book “Al-Shifa” and included the end of “Al-Najat.” He explained the problems of "the law", explained the treatise of "Hayy bin Yaqzan", and recorded much of the biography of his teacher. It is attributed to “Jawzjan”: a wide area in the area of Balkh in Khorasan, which is between Marv al-Rawd and Balkh (Dictionary of Countries). He was alive before the year 428 AH (= 1037 AD). In a narration: He died in Hamadan in the year 438 AH. - This “continuation” was part of a group (from folio 246 to folio 292). It includes the following topics: (246-261a): Geometry from the Book of Deliverance. And at the end of it: “...the last geometry from the Book of Salvation. Praise be to God...” (261b - 268b): Al-Arthmatic. The last of them is: “...the last of the Arthmatic. It will be followed by the knowledge of Al-Hay’ah, God Almighty alone, willing” (269a - 286a) Al-Hay’ah from the Book of Salvation. And at the end of it: “...and we have reached the end of our goal, so the article will cease [sic], praising God Almighty and praying for the Master of Messengers, Muhammad and all his family... It has been completed” (286b - 292b): Music from the Book of Deliverance. At the end of it: “...the last of music and mathematics, which is the completion of the Book of Salvation. Praise be to God...” This is followed by: “Abduh Abd al-Wahhab al-Nahawandi wrote in the school in the year six hundred and twenty-eight.” In each of these topics, there are a number of chapters. Some of them contain geometric shapes and the like. - A photocopy of a handwritten copy in the Jarallah Treasury in Istanbul (No. 1345).
Sample Text Basmala..., Lord help. Sheikh Abu Ubaid Abdul Wahed bin Muhammad Al-Jawzjani said that when I contacted the service of the main Sheikh Abu Ali, may God have mercy on him, I was keen to acquire his works and collect his books and letters, as it was his habit to give away what he wrote to his seeker, and not spare a copy of it for himself. Among his major works on wisdom after the Book of Shifa was: This Book of Deliverance, even though he included in it what he thought he should include of logic, nature and theology, and he did not He devoted himself to studying mathematics due to the obstacles of his disability, so the book remained fragmentary, and I had books for him that were classified in mathematics and were suitable for them, including his book on the principles of geometry, an abridged version of Euclid’s book. He mentioned in it, in his opinion, as much geometry as he knew and verified, he would find the way to knowing the book of Almagest. Among them is his book on universal observations, and his abridged knowledge of the structure of the celestial bodies from the Almagest. Including his brief book on musicology. I decided to add these letters to this book, to complete its compilations, as he indicated in the beginning. Since I did not find anything similar to these letters in his book on Al-Arthmatic, I decided to shorten a treatise from his book on Al-Arthmatic and enclose in it what guides knowledge of the science of music and the proportions used in it, and add it to it as well. God Almighty is the one who helps in this. This is the beginning of his speech, which consists of ten chapters: a mention of geometric principles
