Notes This book is the last thing Ibn al-Khatib wrote before his death, and fate did not allow him to complete it. He wrote it in fulfillment of the desire of Minister Ibn Ghazi, the governor of the state, after the death of Sultan Abdul Aziz al-Marini in Rabi’ al-Akhir in the year 774 AH. When the campaign intensified against him to install him as king, the happy child was born to the deceased Sultan, and he was accused of wasting the interests of Muslims. Ibn al-Khatib wrote his book to prove that this incident has many parallels in Islamic history, and that it is an act that does not contradict religion in any way. The book includes three large sections: the first is the history of the Levant, Egypt, and the Levant, and the second is the history of Andalusia from the sea between the Strait of Gibraltar (the Strait of Gibraltar) to the Far Front, and a mention of the Umayyads and those who came after them from the Taifa states and the barbarian states. Then the history of the Almoravids, the Almohads, and the revolutionaries of Andalusia, and the third section relates to Africa and Morocco since the days of the Aghlabids, the kings of Sanhaja, the Banu Hammad, the Berber states of the Maghreb, the Idrisids, then the Almoravids, and the beginning of the Almohads. This section falls short of what the author intended to complete by talking about the Almohad state until its end, and the state of the Banu Hafs and the Banu Marin, as he tells us in the introduction. This book was mentioned in: Brockelmann: S. II 339. Al-Qarawiyyin al-Kubra 40 and 559. And General Rabat 163. 1552. And the Dictionary of the Academy of History (Parts I and II) Cod XXXVII and P. Boigues 346.
