Notes
The total consists of thirty-one letters, some of which are individually indexed in the Heritage Treasury. They are all copied in one hand, including the comments. The collection begins with one page, which includes an index that mentions the title of each letter, along with the page number, not the paper, and everything is written in the same script as the letters and comments. Then comes a page in which there is an introduction to the compiler of letters. It mentions his name as Ibrahim, that he is from Caesarea, that he is the son of Muhammad Mu’id Effendi, and that he was born in 1160. Then the writer of this translation put his name, saying, “Namaqah Jamal al-Din.”
Sample Text
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to God and peace be upon His servants whom He has chosen. As for what follows, this is a clear gift for those seeking to fulfill the word “perhaps” which is based on the verse of the Almighty: “Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may become righteous” from the famous poor Ibrahim bin Muhammad... and I called it “Guidance.”
