Notes The back of the preamble includes a program of its contents. It is a comprehensive translation by Sheikh Abi Al-Mahasin Yusuf Al-Fassi and his sheikh Abi Abdul Rahman bin Abi Al-Surour Ayyad, known as Al-Majzoub. He begins by talking about Sheikh Majzoub, his virtues and dignity, and mentions his companions. He died in Fez in the year 1011 AH, and was buried outside Bab al-Futuh. Then he goes on to introduce his companions, their conditions and dignity. He then talks about his student Abu al-Mahasin Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Yusuf bin Abdul Rahman bin Abi Bakr al-Fasi al-Fihri al-Maliki, and begins with his birth in the city of Qasr al-Kabir in Rabi’ al-Awwal in the year 937 AH. In a house of knowledge and religion, he was brought up in the traditions of his home and traveled to Fez, where he studied for years, and settled there since 988 AH. He joined the ranks of scholars and righteous people, and contacted Sheikh Majzoub and learned from him. Majzoub considered him the most special of his students to the point that upon his death he bequeathed his succession to him in his knowledge and religious leadership. According to his translator, Sheikh Abu Al-Mahasin was between attraction and behavior, and he had the qualities of perfection, and he mentioned His translator draws many testimonies from his contemporaries, scholars and sheikhs, and he describes his qualities, such as high resolve, forbearance, patience, and straight path. He cites the verses of the Qur’an and the hadiths of the Prophet that he interpreted, and mentions his answers, and the poetry he used to recite. Then he talks about his party and his companions and mentions a group of their elders, then about his dignity, and finally about his illness and death in Rabi’ al-Awwal in the year 1013 AH. He is seventy-five years old, and he concludes by mentioning his sheikhs from whom he heard or learned from them, and mentioning his companions who learned from him. At the end of the book are trees of the genealogies of the kings of Marrakesh, the prophetic tree, the Quraysh tree, and others from No. (270 to 305).
