Notes
It is a quintet of stringed poems in praise of the goodness of wilderness. It is twenty-nine poems according to the number of letters of the alphabet, considering the letter Lām as one thousand letters. Each poem consists of 21 lines, which is the number of a string, and hence its name is the stringed poems. It is composed by Jamal al-Islam Majd al-Din Abi Abdullah Muhammad bin al-Rashid Abi Bakr Muhammad bin Abi Bakr bin Rashid al-Waez al-Baghdadi al-Shafi’i. He died in the year 662. The beginning of the first poem: I pray a prayer that fills the earth and the sky *** Upon the one who has the highest exaltation, followed by the beginning of the fifth: *** I began by mentioning God, praising God in advance*** *** And I praise God with great thanks *** The verses of the original poems are written in a larger font.
